NC: A few of the folks who are "for" Amendment One

Please notice how many of these "man on the street" interviews uses the exact same phrases and terminology.

Think they were handed talking points...?

  1. Their comments were not exactly the same. Marriage is for one man, one woman to create a family that only one man and one woman have the God given ability to create a baby! Period. I am only posting anonymous because it seems if we don't agree on gay marriage we are called all kinds of names, ridiculed and are not politically correct. I am so tired of this issue being shoved down my throat. I do not care what you do in your bedroom. Only God can make those judgements. Don't expect me to accept what you do as normal and okay. I do not have to accept it. I do not discriminate but what you do in your home does not mean you get to have special rights.

  2. Thanks Anonymous for your comments. I wanted to address some of it here:

    >>>"Their comments were not exactly the same."

"Marriage is between one man and one woman" - Of the five "testimonials, all five used the phrase "one man and one woman" exactly. Not once did anyone say "one woman and one man" or any other derivative of the phrase. The same all the time. So yes - these were clearly talking points given to those on the video. I'm not saying they don't believe it. Just that they were coached on what to say.
    >>>"I am only posting anonymous because it seems if we don't agree on gay marriage we are called all kinds of names, ridiculed and are not politically correct."

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary a bigot is defined as: "a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance."

So it's not exactly name calling - it just is what it is. That's the definition of the word, and it would seem to be appropriate for folks who are "obstinately devoted to his or her own opinions."

    >>>"Marriage is for one man, one woman to create a family that only one man and one woman have the God given ability to create a baby! Period."

This logic would dictate that senior citizens who are past child bearing years should not be allowed to marry. Nor should couples who cannot procreate. Is that your position? If so, should there be a litmus test or something on procreation before being allowed to marry?

    >>>"I am so tired of this issue being shoved down my throat."

And I'm tired of being a second class citizen.
AND I'm tired of having straight couples "shove" their relationships down MY throat buy holding hands and kissing in public when the same behavior on my part could get me bashed or killed.

    >>>"I do not care what you do in your bedroom. Only God can make those judgements. Don't expect me to accept what you do as normal and okay. I do not have to accept it. I do not discriminate but what you do in your home does not mean you get to have special rights."

If you don't care what I do in my bedroom and you don't discriminate why vote discrimination into the NC constitution? I'm not voting to take away your rights.

And by the way, it's not "special rights" gays and lesbians want, it's the SAME rights as everyone else: to marry the person they love. Not special - just equal.
And here's a thought - if you want to protect marriage, how about instead you fight to outlaw divorce?

The United States Constitution says we have freedom of religion. What that does not mean is that the US is a theocracy where religion can dictate who is or isn't equal. Freedom of religion works both ways. What the Bible says doesn't have to be followed by everyone in the country by law. Those who are Jewish, Hindu, Muslim or atheists are all still Americans and afforded the same rights.

And last thing: if the Bible is so important to you, do you also speak out about those who labor on the Sabbath? The Bible says they should be put to death - Exodus 35:2. Leviticus 11:10 says "And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you." I take it you also campaign against the shrimp and lobster industry?

Many other things the Bible "says" that I don't see anyone campaigning for. Only to deny gays and lesbians equal civil rights.

I love an open dialogue on The Randy Report. Please come back often.
